Our history

Since our inception in 1996, we have experienced tremendous growth and have maintained our commitment to providing cutting-edge staffing solutions to companies all over the world. 1950-1970
Adia is founded by Henri Lavanchy in Switzerland in 1957. It rapidly expands to other markets by the 1960s.
In 1964, Ecco is founded by Philippe Foriel-Destezet in France.
1970s
In the 1970s, Adia goes global, acquiring more than 85 companies in the process. Adia is also listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange.
1980s
By the 1980s, Ecco is France’s market leader, while Adia continues taking huge leaps into new markets. It sees sales top $1bn and becomes Europe’s leading temporary-staffing business.
1990s
Ecco becomes the industry’s 2nd biggest-selling firm worldwide, surpassing Adia.
In 1996, Adia and Ecco join forces, becoming Adecco, and start placing 250,000+ people per day.
2000s
Adecco continues to expand and becomes America’s largest recruitment company. Revenue tops $11.6bn. Adecco creates three distinct business units to serve different needs in the market.
2010s and beyond
Adecco acquires more leading recruitment companies as well as numerous technology-enabled training and recruitment platforms, including: QAPA, Vettery, General Assembly, and Hired.
